Khartoum – Sudan Now | 10 May 2026
The Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, met today with a French parliamentary delegation led by French MP Christopher Mario, in the presence of Darfur Governor Minni Arko Minnawi. The meeting discussed the latest developments in Sudan and the government’s efforts to achieve security and stability.
The Sovereign Council stated that Al-Burhan briefed the French delegation on what he described as violations and atrocities committed by the RSF Militia against civilians, in addition to the systematic targeting of infrastructure and state institutions during the ongoing war since April 2023.
For his part, French MP Christopher Mario said the delegation’s visit aims to assess on the ground the violations suffered by civilians in Darfur and other regions, noting that France maintains close relations with Sudan and is working with European partners to support the country’s unity.
Mario added that he has submitted a request to the French Parliament to designate the RSF as a “terrorist organization,” based on what he described as inhumane crimes and violations committed against civilians.
The French MP noted that the French Foreign Minister is expected to visit Sudan in the coming period alongside the German Foreign Minister, saying the move reflects Paris’s desire to strengthen ties with Khartoum, describing Sudan as a “strategic partner,” according to his remarks.
Mario emphasized that Sudan’s stability is a key factor for the stability of the region and the Horn of Africa, amid rising humanitarian and security repercussions linked to the war.
Relations between Sudan and several European countries have seen increasing engagement following the escalation of the humanitarian crisis in Darfur and the widening of the conflict. In recent months, calls have also emerged within Western political and human rights circles for greater pressure on parties involved in the war and for investigations into violations committed against civilians.
