Al-Rutuj – Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, called on citizens not to head toward border areas or engage in any activities that could lead to tensions with neighboring countries.

He affirmed that the government is closely monitoring reports concerning incidents that occurred along the border and will conduct the necessary investigations into the matter.

This came during a visit to the Al-Rutuj area in the Red Sea State, where he met with residents, community leaders, and local officials in the presence of Red Sea State Governor Lt. Gen. Mustafa Mohamed Nour Mahmoud and Commander of the Red Sea Military Zone Lt. Gen. Mahjoub Bushra.

Al-Burhan said that Sudan values and respects its neighboring countries to the north and east, stressing the need to prevent any actions that could provoke border-related tensions. He also affirmed that the government bears full responsibility for protecting citizens and safeguarding their interests.

Al-Burhan’s remarks come days after reports of the killing and injury of several Sudanese miners in a border area with Egypt, an incident that sparked widespread reactions and calls for investigations to clarify its circumstances.

He added that the state will not allow any individual or entity to take the law into their own hands or seize rights outside legal frameworks, noting that the authorities will deal firmly with any violations that threaten security and stability.

He also reiterated the army and government’s determination to combat insecurity, collect unregulated weapons, and hold accountable anyone who extorts citizens or threatens their safety.

As for internal matters, he called for national unity and the consolidation of efforts to confront current challenges, stressing that the priority lies in protecting the country, preserving its stability, and preventing attempts to incite discord among its different components.

He praised the role played by the Bisharin and Rashaida tribes in promoting peaceful coexistence, and commended the role of traditional administration in strengthening the social fabric and entrenching values of tolerance and stability.

He also noted that the visit comes at a time when eastern Sudan is witnessing increased activity in the traditional mining sector, amid local calls to regulate markets, formalize mining operations, and enhance basic services in border areas.

He stressed that the government will urgently work to organize local markets and regulate the mining sector in the region, noting that Red Sea State possesses significant resources that could contribute to supporting the national economy if managed in an organized and efficient manner.
