BEIJING – Sudan on Friday signed the founding agreement of the World Organization for Artificial Intelligence Cooperation (WOAIC), becoming one of the founding member states of the new international body established to promote global cooperation in artificial intelligence.
Sudan’s Ambassador to China, Omar Issa Ahmed, signed the agreement on behalf of the Sudanese government during a ceremony held at China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing, attended by Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Bin.
According to Sudan’s state news agency SUNA, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Iran and Togo also joined during the latest signing round, bringing the number of founding member states to 35.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Sudanese ambassador welcomed China’s initiative to establish what he described as the first international organization dedicated to advancing global cooperation in artificial intelligence. He said Sudan looks forward to working with China and other member states to strengthen cooperation, exchange expertise, expand training and capacity-building, support scientific research and technological development, and promote sustainable partnerships, particularly among countries of the Global South.
The World Organization for Artificial Intelligence Cooperation was officially launched on 17 July 2026 as a multilateral platform aimed at promoting international collaboration in AI governance, technology development, research and capacity-building amid growing global interest in establishing common standards for the rapidly evolving sector.
