ED DAMAZIN – Authorities in Sudan’s Blue Nile region sought to reassure residents on Friday as military developments in parts of the region fuelled public anxiety, urging people to avoid unverified reports and rely on official information.

The regional government said it was closely monitoring the security situation in coordination with military and security agencies and was working to maintain stability in towns and other areas under government control.

In a statement issued by the regional government spokesperson’s office, authorities acknowledged growing concern among residents over fighting, artillery fire and conflicting reports circulating on social media.

The statement said military operations could involve shifts in deployment and control and warned against interpreting every battlefield movement as a collapse or defeat.

It did not identify the areas affected by the latest fighting or provide details on any changes in territorial control.

Authorities urged residents of Ed Damazin, Ar Rusayris, Wad Al-Mahi, Geisan, Al-Kurmuk, At Tadamon and Baw to avoid sharing old images, unverified videos or reports claiming that towns or military positions had fallen without confirmation.

The government said it was continuing efforts to protect civilians and maintain basic services while monitoring both security and civilian conditions.

It also said it would not deny the existence of security challenges and pledged to communicate developments when circumstances required.

Journalists, activists and social media users were urged to verify information before publication and avoid content that could deepen divisions among communities in the region.

The statement comes amid renewed fighting across parts of Blue Nile, where control of several locations has shifted repeatedly in recent weeks between the Sudanese army and forces aligned with the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North.
