KHARTOUM – Sudan’s army chief and Transitional Sovereignty Council Chairman, Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, vowed to defeat the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), saying Sudan would not be allowed to experience what he described as the country’s “harsh ordeal” again.
Speaking after Friday prayers at Al-Hadrab Mosque in the Shambat district of Khartoum Bahri, al-Burhan said the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) would continue operations to restore the rights of Sudanese citizens and seek justice for those killed during the conflict.
“The rebel militia, and those who backed and supported it, will have no place after today,” al-Burhan said, referring to the RSF.
He paid tribute to those killed during the war and praised residents of Shambat for what he described as their resilience and support for the armed forces. He also highlighted the district’s long-standing contribution to education, social solidarity and charitable work.
Al-Burhan said the Sudanese people remain the country’s strongest source of support and the foundation for preserving state institutions, calling on all sectors of society to unite in confronting threats to Sudan’s unity, sovereignty and stability.
The remarks come as the Sudanese military has expanded its control over large parts of Khartoum State in recent months following intensified operations against the RSF. Fighting, however, continues in Darfur, Kordofan and other parts of the country.
The conflict between the SAF and the RSF, which erupted in April 2023, has killed thousands of people, displaced millions and triggered one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises.
