KADUGLI – At least 16 civilians were killed and dozens wounded when a drone struck a fuel station in Al-Abbasiya Tagali in Sudan’s South Kordofan State on Tuesday, according to multiple local sources.

The strike hit Nawafil fuel station while civilians were waiting for fuel, the sources said.

The attack caused a large fire that destroyed the station and burned several vehicles. The wounded were taken to hospitals for treatment.

Local sources attributed the attack to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), but the casualty toll and responsibility for the strike could not be independently verified.

Separate local reporting reviewed Tuesday also cited an initial toll of more than 16 people killed in the attack.

A second drone also targeted a fuel station in nearby Rashad around the same time, according to the sources. No casualties were reported there, although the facility sustained material damage.

The RSF had not issued a public statement on the attacks in the information available.

South Kordofan has experienced repeated drone strikes as fighting expands across the region, with fuel facilities, roads and other infrastructure increasingly exposed to long-range attacks.

Previous drone strikes in Kordofan and neighbouring states have also hit civilian areas and fuel installations, raising concerns about the impact on supplies, transport and essential services.
