KHARTOUM – A group of fighters who said they had defected from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced their defection to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), apologizing to the Sudanese people for what they described as violations and crimes committed while they were members of the paramilitary group.
Speaking to Al Hadath TV, the group’s commander, Al-Nour Hussein Al-Dodo, said the fighters joined the army through the command of Al-Nour Ahmed Adam, known as “Al-Nour Quba,” and had been received by the military. He said the group was ready to fight alongside the SAF.
Al-Dodo also claimed that some RSF members face internal pressure and risk arrest or execution if they refuse to carry out orders, predicting that more fighters would defect in the coming period.
Military sources told Sudan Now that the group, numbering about 280 fighters, arrived in Khartoum from Darfur with their weapons and military equipment before declaring their allegiance to the Sudanese army.
The reported defections follow a series of high-profile departures from the RSF during 2026, including field commander Ali Rizqallah, known as “Al-Safana,” and Al-Nour Ahmed Adam (“Al-Nour Quba”), who previously announced their alignment with the SAF.
The war between the SAF and the RSF, which began in April 2023, has triggered one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises while reshaping military alliances across Sudan.
The RSF has not immediately commented on the reported defections.
