AD-DAMAZIN – The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) said on Wednesday they had recaptured the town of Al Kurmuk in Blue Nile State after clashes with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied fighters, announcing that government forces had established full control over the area.
In a statement, the military’s spokesperson said the operation, carried out with the support of allied forces, resulted in casualties among RSF fighters and the capture of weapons and military vehicles.
The army said government forces would now focus on securing the town, protecting civilians, restoring essential services and creating conditions for the return of normal life.
It also vowed to continue military operations, saying its campaign against the RSF would continue until all territory under the group’s control is recaptured.
The SAF’s announcement could not be independently verified, and there was no immediate response from the RSF.
Blue Nile has witnessed intensified fighting in recent months as clashes expanded between the Sudanese army, the RSF and fighters from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) after the alliance seized Al Kurmuk and surrounding areas.
The fighting has displaced thousands of civilians to government-controlled areas while disrupting healthcare, education and other essential services across parts of Blue Nile State. Humanitarian organizations have repeatedly warned that continued insecurity is limiting aid access and worsening conditions for displaced communities.
